The dilemma: getting real in 2025 (hello!)
The rule of 5 and much more - let's get started.
Welcome to Mirella’s Substack in 2025
This week, amongst other things that have inspired me to post here, I have almost finished eating a whole iceberg lettuce. This is big news. To know me is to know that I love iceberg lettuce and constantly buy them at the supermarket in the hopes I will become someone that eats a lot of lettuce. Then comes every (in)frequent fridge clean and out goes 3/4 of uneaten gloopy old iceberg lettuce. So, yes, I am inspired by the fact that I have almost eaten a whole lettuce. The metaphor is that maybe I can finish something I start. Something started with good and wholesome intentions (especially when it is a New Year and I am on holidays from my real world job).
I’ve also been inspired by
, , , , , , , , et al. These wonderful people who put themselves out there and shine with their combined love of clothes, beautiful writing, thought provoking ideas and genuine encouragement of others.I’m sorry but I just can’t help myself. I’m so inspired that I’m jumping onboard and starting up yet another teeny tiny corner of the internet for my extended notes and current interests (aka clothing consumption). In 2025 I’m taking part in the Rule of 5 Challenge - an ambitious target for me - and I’m going to write about it here.
Please don’t mistake this for me taking myself seriously. It is in fact the complete opposite. I’m planning to use this space as a place to keep myself accountable. An open diary that I really don’t expect anyone to read. A place for reflection, consideration, tracking and self encouragement. Because I love writing this stuff and because - why not?
Jennifer sums it up perfectly:
What to expect / hope for:
random late night thoughts
real life outfits
never ending wish list items analysed like your life depends on it
puzzle piece musings
monthly check ins including purchase updates in real time
notes on things I didn’t buy
details of new hobbies now taking up valuable space made available by not endlessly scrolling (she hopes)
rambling conversations that you may or may not be able to follow
If you want more lettuce updates and/or real life low buy inspo by an almost 40 year old, office manager, Australian mum of 2 young kids with nothing better to do - stay tuned.
I briefly considered changing the name of this Substack to Love Lettuce. A play, if you will, on Love Letters (to clothes). Or Love Let Us (be inspired)…. But let’s just keep things simple for now.
As always, I’m excited.

If it weren’t for the lettuce chat - I would have thought I wrote this 😉 I can completely relate and I’m looking forward to following your journey in 2025! From one fashion obsessed fellow Aussie almost 40 mum of two, I see you 👀
You legit brought a tear to my eye! Thank you for the shout out and I’m excited and honored to be a part of your corner of the internet. I can’t wait to see where this year takes us.
